For the creation of “Rise”, her Spring/Summer 2018 collection, young fashion designer Carolina Machado was inspired by “Laurence Anyways”, a movie by Xavier Dolan that tells the story of an impossible love between a woman and a transgender woman. Set in the late 1980s’, the film features an intense wardrobe with voluminous shapes and vibrant colours. In a perfect contrast between masculine and feminine, Carolina played with wardrobe conventions by mixing structured, tailored pieces with more organic, sensuous shapes.
